Uganda’s organic coffee

• Export Promotion of Organic Produce from Africa (EPOPA) set up and was funded by SIDA (Swedish International Development Agency) in 1994.
• EPOPA made an Agreement with Kawacom (our company in Uganda) in 1998 to launch a 3 year organic Robusta coffee project to improve the welfare of several groups of farmers.
• After 3 years, the project continued and expanded to another 2 Arabica coffee regions.
• EPOPA provided the technical assistance and meet the costs of certification, while Kawacom purchased directly from the farmers, avoiding middlemen and agents.
