Carbon sinks in Nicaragua
- Low coffee prices and resulting rural poverty are accelerating
rates of deforestation in the coffee production area as well
as within the buffer zone surrounding the core of the Biosphere
Reserve of Bozawas in Northern Nicaragua, the most important
in Central America.
- The project aims to measure the carbon contribution of reforestation
programs in the coffee regions and establish economic incentives
to the growers based on the volume of the certified carbon credits
generated.
