Finance
Initially each new employee will be assigned a mentor who will train and expose you to the basics of the commodity business and its financial aspects. The aspects may include the understanding and mastering of: consolidations and financial statements, cash flow and management, letters of credit, structured trade finance, auditing, and tax/fiscal laws and calculations. Over time, you will have the opportunity to travel to different group offices in order to better understand our other global operations.

Traffic
Each employee will work closely with a mentor who will train him/her on ECOM’s systems. As a member of the traffic department, you will be exposed to areas that include, but are not limited to, the following: standard procedures, account closings, and working with steamship lines and warehouses. The goal is for you to eventually be responsible for maintaining all traffic and logistical information for a specific grades and varieties of cotton (ie: short staple, pima, upland, etc.)

Trading
New employees are hired as trainees, with a particular commodity in mind, on a one-year trial period. Trainees are mentored by traders in the commodity department to which they are assigned. Over the course of time, you will be exposed to traffic and logistical procedures, product understanding, contacts with clients and the market, and familiarization with contracts and futures exchanges. After mastering the required skills, you will travel to other ECOM international operations in order to further understand the commodities industry. As a trainee, the ultimate objective is to advance to a trader position where you will learn to formulate trading strategies, develop relationships with brokers and new clients, and fully understand the fundamental and technical aspects of your commodity.
