Case study: Inspiring the Next Generation, Indonesia
01/01/01
ECOM SMS recently discovered that our Cocoa Development Centers (CDCs) in Indonesia are proving even more beneficial to their wider communities.
Students from three schools in the area have been learning about cocoa through workshops at our CDCs.
As a free service to the community, our local partner is providing knowledge and skills training covering various topics, to inspire and motivate young people, who we hope will see cocoa farming as a viable, profitable, career choice. Across many of the cocoa growing countries, trends show that young people prefer to seek jobs in the city rather than stay in rural cocoa-growing regions to work as farmers.
It is important for the sustainability of the cocoa sector that we encourage young people to pursue a future in a modernised, profitable cocoa sector.
