Greetings from the Climate Team! As our climate initiatives grow at ECOM, we would like to share our main updates with you.

Key objectives of the Climate Team

  • - Achieve net-zero emissions across our value chain by 2050
  • - Develop climate focused programs within our value chain for ECOM and our clients
  • - Develop high quality carbon credit projects

Climate update - February 2024

What's ahead in 2024? In our first climate update, we bring you a snapshot of ongoing and future initiatives:

  • - Development of the Commodity Carbon Calculators
  • - Insights on carbon insetting projects
  • - Explore high-quality carbon credit project examples
  • - Upcoming 'Exchange on Sustainable Solutions' on March 19th

Development of Commodity Carbon Calculators

  • - The climate team developed calculators to quantify carbon impact of coffee, cocoa, and cotton at farm level to target key interventions and track progress.
  • - This tool will provide an emission factor per commodity per country, allowing emissions breakdown into categories and archetypes.
  • - After the pilot phase and a third-party review, the calculators will be available together with an online presentation by the beginning of May 2024.

Carbon insetting

  • - There is a growing customer demand for farm-level projects addressing climate change impacts.
  • - Together with R&D, the climate team calculated direct Land Use Change (dLUC) emission factors for most cocoa and coffee origins for base year 2022.
  • - Protocol development for Agroforestry and Soil Organic Carbon (SOC) monitoring on track for on-the-ground use by the end of April 2024.

High-quality carbon credit projects

Interested in developing projects outside of our farm boundaries or within farming communities?

  • - Project examples: Biochar, fuel efficient cookstoves, afforestation/reforestation or REDD+.
  • - We recently hosted an ECOM internal 'Carbon Credits
  • - Projects and the Voluntary Carbon Market' webinar on the 25th of Jan. Interested in the recording or the slides?
